Let this blow your mind...

Click that fucker to zoom out. Waaaaaaay out. This photo was snapped from 432 miles above Washington DC at 11:19 am on 1/20/09. I think you can figure the rest out on your own. Normally, satellite photos do a good job of making me feel small. This one makes me feel big, for some reason.

Anyway, happy new year, everyone.

Damn. You don't realize how many people their are until you see that photo. Makes you wonder why they seem to be in disparate clumps in seemingly random areas. I'm sure theres a reason, but I don't know what it is.

You can also Ctrl+mousewheel to have the browser zoom in and out of the image. It gives you an idea of just how spread out the different clumps are and just how many people must be there. I haven't seen any solid numbers on totals. But it's pretty clear it was a ridiculously huge turnout.

Everything I've read and seen on TV says just south of 2 million. If that's true, it is by a long shot the largest gathering on the mall ever, and one of the largest collections of humans in such a small area anywhere ever, period.

Something to ponder.

I'm guessing maybe that's where they had the large projection screens set up for everyone to congregate around?

Maybe they were trying to form the shape of testicles for the satellite shot?

Ah. Didn't know they had projectors. I missed pretty much the whole thing and have just read about it after the fact.
