Ever wondered what 102" of snow looks like? Now you don't have to. That pole is 10' tall, for scale. (Click the photo for a larger iteration.) The mountain in the background is Three Fingered Jack. I've looked at it many times, and wondered how it got saddled with that name, since there is nothing at all three about it. Maybe from the other side there are three of something that could be construed as fingers. But the other side is all wilderness area with no roads (despite President Bush's best intentions, it is still roadless wilderness), so I'll never know.
Anyways, a rather severe fall today that resulted in a purple toe which may or may not have to be amputated, but otherwise the best day ever, at least as far as snowboarding goes. It was 55 and sunny all day; I was in a t-shirt, but I saw several dudes in just shorts, no shirt at all. Fucking fantastic.
1. Some people say Scorsese got a mercy Oscar. This is untrue. That movie deserved ten Oscars.
2. Some people say it is too long. This is untrue. It could have been an hour longer, and I'd still think it was too short.
3. Some people say that it is Scorsese's best movie. This is untrue. It is _everyone's_ best movie. This is, quite simply, the best movie I've ever seen. And I watch at least one movie every single day, and have for the last ten years. I know movies.
I have a three-word review for The Departed: holy fucking shit.
Anywho, not much to blog about, which is why I haven't been blogging. We're waiting for the Bounte CDs, which should be here tomorrow, and we can then catch up on all the orders. I twisted my ankle pretty badly during my back-country snowboarding expedition, so I've basically been lying around watching TV the last three days. Blogging about that is, like, really weak, so I haven't done it.
At the risk of becoming tedious about this whole snowboarding thing, I decided to take matters in to my own hands. I drove to a logging road I know at about 1700 ft elevation, and there was plenty of snow. So I found a nice incline, built myself a jump, and proceeded to tear my board, my knee, and my ankles to shreds by jumping repeatedly. Fucking awesome. Just goes to show: where there's a will, there's a way.
So, I'll make another attempt tomorrow, I guess. In the meantime, work proceeds on the Micronaut album, and we're waiting for the Bounte album. I've received word that it will arrive on Monday or Tuesday.
Fedex just showed up with the CR album. All is in order, which is nice, as I half expected them to be fucked up in an entirely new direction. The Bounte record is being pressed today, and we should have that shortly. So, all's well that ends well, it seems.
So the Wii kind of languished for the last couple months, mainly because I'm waiting for Super Mario Galaxy. On Saturday, I walked in to EB to see what the hold-up was with same, and noticed that there was a Sonic game available for the Wii, Sonic and the Secret Rings. Let's just say it's a whole new Wii.
I had thought the haptics in Zelda were hokey, and merely necessary in Wii Sports, but in Sonic it's done right. My arms actually hurt from waving the Wii Remote around trying to get that damned hedgehog to go where I want. Some really crafty programming on the part of Team Sonic this time, and there's hardly anything tedious about the game.
Long story short, if you have a Wii and you like platformers, Sonic is the best one available, at least until Super Mario Galaxy comes out.
Serious LOTR action in our back yard today. That's some creepy-ass shit, make no mistake. It's like JRR Tolkien and HP Lovecraft got in a little environmental tussle or something.
We received the CDs yesterday. They look fantastic. We have boxes and boxes of them. The music has changed a bit, though. In fact, every single Bounte CD has "The Devil His Due" on it. And the CR album? Well, you can probably follow the line of logic to its obvious conclusion. The people that actually physically make our CDs are, it turns out, quite stupid. So am I, occasionally.
So, needless to say, we won't be shipping anything for a couple days. You have my apologies, and please be patient as we get this sorted out. We should have everything here on Monday or Tuesday.
